San Martino is situated on Lake Corbara which lies between Orvieto and Todi among the rolling hills of Southern Umbria, with the river Tiber running from one city towards the other.
The nearest bar, shop and pizzeria is in the tiny village of Corbara just 3km away. Baschi is 8km away and has a small supermarket, petrol station, bars and a couple of restaurants. The hills surrounding the lake are scattered with beautiful hilltop towns providing ample exploration by car or on foot and some excellent restaurants serving local Umbrian fare.
Orvieto is a magnificent medieval town set high on a tufa plateau with cafes, wine bars, restaurants, wonderful food shops, a theatre and a dazzling cathedral with frescos by Signorelli and Fra Angelico. The road to Todi takes you through the area of Monte Peglia, the archetype of Umbrian scenery, to this ancient walled city, fabulously rich in art and architecture, only 20km away. A little further afield but still easily reachable are Perugia, Assisi, Spoletto, Siena, Florence and Rome.
